BUILDING WHAT COMES NEXT
Industry – the Wilton Centre continues to serve as one of Europe’ s largest research and development facilities, supporting innovation across chemicals, manufacturing, materials science and life sciences.
Wind of change- Steel River Quay can service the offshore sector ' s growing needs.
INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH, INDUSTRIAL GROWTH Redcar and Cleveland combines natural beauty with some of the most significant industrial assets in the UK. The area sits at the centre of major opportunities in clean energy, advanced manufacturing and chemical processing.
The region is attracting substantial investment interest in sectors including offshore wind, carbon capture, sustainable aviation fuel, critical minerals and defence. These industries will play a major role in supporting net zero ambitions.
Sustainable aviation fuel( SAF) represents a particularly important opportunity. Tees Valley’ s expertise in chemicals, process industries and largescale fermentation provides a strong foundation for SAF production and wider bio-based manufacturing. Teesside International Airport can also support testing and adoption, creating a unique regional proposition.
Redcar’ s industrial assets include some of the deepest ports on England’ s east coast, positioning the area to support future offshore wind development and maritime industries. Planned expansions to quayside and dry-dock infrastructure
Action – future investment will focus on major regeneration opportunities such as the expansion of Northern Studios and the development of a TV and film production village. will help attract investment while creating opportunities in defence and marine engineering.
Wilton International remains Britain’ s largest chemical processing complex, offering extensive development land and infrastructure. As market demand evolves, the site is increasingly attracting investment interest in battery storage, data centres and sustainable fuels.
The Wilton Centre continues to serve as one of Europe’ s largest research and development facilities, supporting innovation across chemicals, manufacturing, materials science and life sciences.
Teesworks, Europe’ s largest brownfield development site, is already becoming a cornerstone of the region’ s industrial future with projects such as Net Zero Teesside and SeAH Wind embedding a reputation for clean energy innovation.
Steel River Quay can accommodate the growing needs of the offshore wind sector, helping unlock additional capacity and attract new occupiers.
PD Ports’ Teesport Offshore Gateway plan and the deep water infrastructure of Redcar Bulk Terminal will create a globally competitive platform for industrial growth.
Economic transformation will also support town-centre regeneration. Building on projects such as Redcar Central Station and the Regent Cinema, further investment in leisure, hospitality and housing will help create vibrant communities.
OUR RIVER AND COASTLINE The Tees has shaped the identity and prosperity of the region. It remains one of our greatest assets and provides the foundation for a shared vision of connectivity and economic growth.
Key projects are now reconnecting communities with the river. Stockton’ s
Waterfront Park and Middlesbrough’ s Middlehaven developments demonstrate how investment can create stronger links between people, places and opportunities.
Hartlepool Waterfront is a landmark destination combining leisure, culture and visitor attractions.
Along the coastline, destinations such as Seaton Carew, Redcar and Saltburn continue to attract visitors and support local businesses.
Investment in public spaces, visitor infrastructure, promenades, coastal defences and tourism assets will help maximise their potential while protecting them for future generations.
The restoration of the Transporter Bridge represents another significant opportunity. Reopening this iconic structure would improve connectivity between Stockton and Middlesbrough, strengthen civic pride and enhance the region’ s tourism offer.
Industrial opportunities also remain closely linked to the river. Investment in sites such as North Tees, Teesport and Steel River Quay will support future growth, diversification and decarbonisation across the industrial cluster.
Enhanced port and riverside infrastructure will unlock new opportunities in Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Redcar while strengthening Tees Valley’ s position as a nationally significant centre for trade, industry and innovation.
Together, these interventions will ensure the Tees continues to connect communities, drive economic growth and define the future of Tees Valley as a UK powerhouse.
