Investment – enhanced port and riverside infrastructure will unlock new opportunities while strengthening Tees Valley’ s position as a nationally significant centre for trade, industry and innovation.
TRANSFORMING
Connecting communities, driving economic growth and defining the future of the Tees region
The Tees Valley’ s five boroughs have a long history of working together. From the creation of the Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit and Tees Valley Development Company in 1996 to the establishment of the Tees Valley Combined Authority a decade ago, this collaborative approach has driven significant change across the region.
As Tees Valley launches its Local Growth Plan, investment pipeline and other key strategies, there is an opportunity to accelerate progress. Central to this vision are interconnected packages designed to drive growth, attract investment and strengthen our key sectors.
The Tees remains the defining feature of our region. Flowing from Darlington through Stockton and Middlesbrough before reaching the North Sea between Hartlepool and Redcar, it provides both a shared identity and an economic corridor linking our towns and industries.
Like the river itself, these packages are designed to flow together, creating benefits across the whole region while building on the unique strengths of each borough.
The packages focus on Tees Valley ' s five boroughs and are complemented by a sixth focused on the river.
They demonstrate our ambition to be a confident, outward-looking region defined by innovation, opportunity and a connected economy where people can enjoy a high quality of life.
This ensures Tees Valley will continue to be more than the sum of its parts – a region that is inventive, surprising and unstoppable all at once.
TEES VALLEY’ S GATEWAY Darlington is the starting point of the Tees Valley story. Its railway heritage helped transform global transport and continues to shape the region’ s connectivity and economic potential.
The £ 140m transformation of Darlington Station has created one of the bestconnected transport hubs in the north of England. The project improves capacity and reliability for local and national services while providing an inspiring gateway for visitors, investors and businesses.
This investment forms part of a wider programme linking key developments across the region, including Tees Central. The redevelopment of the area surrounding the station represents Darlington’ s most ambitious regeneration programme in decades and is closely aligned with the growth generated by the Darlington Economic Campus.
Plans include a new commercial district with Grade A office space to support the growing professional and financial services sector, alongside a new residential quarter
