A warm welcome to a publication focused on what to expect from the Tees region of North-East England.
As Teesside’ s own Chris Rea once sang,“ I was born and raised on Steel River.” Ours is a region built on iron and ambition. Once, names such as ICI, Dorman Long, Cleveland Bridge and
Head Wrightson defined Teesside’ s global industrial power – gifting the world Perspex, the friction match, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and even the parmo.
Two centuries ago, we gave the world its first public railway, between Stockton and Darlington. We even built icons for our neighbours, from the Tyne Bridge to the Angel of the North.
But while the days of the“ Infant Hercules” have evolved, our spirit remains. Today, the Tees Valley is still driven by ingenuity, innovation and entrepreneurial ambition.
We see it in international investment from firms such as SeAH Wind, PD Ports, bp and Sembcorp. We see it in local success stories: INDUSTRO, born from redundancy and now a £ 10m business; long-established stalwarts such as Wilton Engineering and Fleet Factors; and in trailblazers such as Double Eleven, founded by a Teesside University graduate and now a global games developer based in Middlesbrough’ s landmark Boho X building.
And here’ s a fact worth repeating: Middlesbrough is officially the fastestgrowing tech hub outside London – ahead of Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Bristol.
Even when global headlines are clouded by economic uncertainty, tariffs, cuts or conflict, Teesside keeps moving forward.
Our businesses, our people and our ambition continue to prove one thing … We once built the world. Now we’ re building the future.
