North-East film industry on the up thanks to regional investment
Series – Smoggie Queens is a new LGBTQIA + comedy centred around a gang of friends who are fiercely proud of Middlesbrough .
The screen industry in the North-East is booming – but it hasn ’ t always been this way . In previous years , our talented crew would have to leave the region in order to find work on film and TV productions .
But since the launch of the North East Screen Industries Partnership , which is delivered by North East Screen , filming in the region is up 73 per cent ( which bucks the trend from other areas in the UK ).
Savvy talent is starting to come home and supply chain businesses are looking to base themselves in the region .
You may have seen news reports of the film premiere taking place at the Showcase De Lux in Teesside at the beginning of 2023 when North-East born writer and director Jamie Childs brought his feature film debut , JACKDAW , to the region .
On working in the screen industry , Jamie said : “ The nature of the work that I do has led me to other parts of the country and the world , but my ambition has always been to bring things back to the North-East .”
ACTION !
Proud – North-East-born writer and director Jamie Childs brought his feature film debut , JACKDAW , to the region .
