Jessica ’ s career path was influenced by her upbringing in Zimbabwe , where her parents ’ careers in healthcare inspired her nurturing spirit from a young age .
Moving to the UK in 2002 , she pursued a mental health nursing degree at Teesside University , kickstarting a career dedicated to enhancing elderly care . Her passion for delivering exceptional service led her and husband John to establish Moonrise as a domiciliary care agency , initially managed from their home and later expanded across multiple offices in Middlesbrough .
The pivotal moment came amid the challenges posed by the pandemic when Jessica and John seized the opportunity to acquire a property on Stockton ’ s Preston Farm in 2021 . Despite its initial state of disrepair , their vision transformed it into a functional headquarters , complete with modern amenities including a dedicated training space , break room and state-of-theart offices .
Jessica emphasises their goal of creating a welcoming environment conducive to both staff productivity and client satisfaction . She says : “ Our goal was to create a comfortable space for both staff and visitors . We are really pleased with our excellent offices now ”.
But an office building is only as good as the people in it – a tour of the Falcon Court building and talking to Moonrise staff , including long-time business administrator Sarah Harland , emphasises how dedicated , caring and close-knit this team is .
Sarah says : “ I needed a job in 2016 and I ’ ve been here ever since – I ’ m part of the furniture ! I love it here – there ’ s a real family feel to the place .”
Indeed , the team members affectionately refer to themselves as the “ Moonrise family ”.
Moonrise ’ s service offerings span domiciliary care , supported living , children ’ s services and agency cover for diverse private and public sector clients .
With Jessica at the helm as MD and John as finance director , their shared dedication and hands-on approach have fostered a culture where staff morale and service excellence thrive .
Jessica expresses her pride in having a team that values integrity and compassion in every aspect of their work . “ We are very fortunate that all our staff have the same ethics as us – basically , they want to provide excellent care .
“ I can ’ t ask anyone else who works for us , even here in the office environment , to do something I wouldn ’ t do myself . They know I can step in if necessary .
“ We are determined to always provide the highest quality of care – the same level of care we would expect for ourselves and our families .”
As they celebrate their achievements and plan for continued growth with new offices in Oldbury in the West Midlands and in Scotland , Jessica remains steadfast in her commitment to Tees Valley .
Voted the Tees Valley ’ s BME Businessperson of the Year in 2023 , she attributes their success to unwavering community support and the collaborative efforts of local authorities , universities and colleges .
Jessica concludes : “ Teesside has been instrumental in our journey . It ’ s not about where you come from , but the determination and professionalism you bring to the table .
“ We are proud to call Tees Valley home and to contribute positively to the community that has embraced us .”
