Moving forward , we will focus on further enhancing our infrastructure to support our growing economy .
We have secured £ 1bn from government for transport which will be used to expand our road and rail networks and improve public transport . By building a robust infrastructure , we can create an environment that attracts businesses , supports innovation and improves the quality of life for local people and their families .
A thriving economy also requires a skilled and educated workforce . We have made significant progress in improving educational opportunities and skills training but there is still much work to be done .
Our goal is to ensure that every young person in Teesside , Darlington and Hartlepool has access to high-quality education and the skills needed to succeed in the modern economy .
In the coming term , we will invest in our schools , colleges and training programmes to provide our young people with the best possible start in life .
We will work closely with businesses and educational institutions to create pathways to employment , apprenticeships and lifelong learning opportunities .
By prioritising education and skills development , we can build a workforce that is prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future .
This will be vital as we lead the way in the industries of the future , bringing thousands of jobs to the area .
At the heart of our vision is the wellbeing of our communities . Economic growth and development must translate into tangible benefits for our residents , improving their quality of life by giving families more money in their pockets and greater economic freedom .
We have spent the last seven years putting the building blocks in place to achieve this . Now we must make sure local people truly feel the benefit of this investment in their day-to-day lives .
In the coming term , we will also work tirelessly to ensure that our communities are safe and healthy , which is why we will be delivering a new hospital to replace North Tees .
This won ’ t be easy but that ’ s what people said about the airport , it is what they said about the steelworks .
But it ’ s what the people of Teesside , Darlington and Hartlepool and our local NHS staff deserve , so that is why I will be putting my energy into delivering on this promise , as I have delivered on all my others .
The journey ahead is filled with promise , and I am deeply grateful for the support and trust the people of Teesside have placed in me .
I am more determined than ever to deliver on our potential . Together , we have achieved so much , and together , we will continue to build a brighter future for Teesside , Darlington and Hartlepool .
As we embark on this new term , I invite you to join me and to work with me to deliver on the mandate I have been given to create a region that is prosperous , where our children and grandchildren can thrive and where our communities can flourish .
Let us move forward with confidence and optimism .
The best is yet to come .
