STOCKTON-ON-TEES
Tell us about Savage Silk and why you believe the Tees Valley community should come to you for legal advice ? We are a full-service law firm that develops and strengthens long-lasting relationships with our clients and intermediary business partners . We offer a more personal experience than the traditional ‘ old style ’ lawyer-client way of working , incorporating modern working practices .
We are focused on understanding clients ’ requirements , allowing us to tailor our services in a more efficient manner and we provide effective solutions to complex matters . This approach makes sense , not only for us but also for our clients .
And you ’ ve got a strong team in place to support clients ? We have two key office locations : one in Newcastle and the other in the Tees Valley . We are passionate about recruiting the right people and proud of the teams we have assembled , which means we can confidently offer practical legal advice to include : commercial property ; covering everything in the nature of land and buildings , including landlord and tenant work , and development-related work .
Our corporate and commercial team ’ s core areas of expertise include mergers and acquisitions , shareholder agreements and commercial contracts .
We cover the wide gambit of employment law , ensuring businesses are compliant with employment legislation .
The dispute resolution team are on hand to untangle situations when clients need advice to resolve a litigation matter .
We also handle residential conveyancing , covering sales , purchases , remortgages and equity release matters .
Our private client team offers a service that we can all relate to – looking after our loved ones and their future . They help clients with putting in place their will , updating an existing will or with writing a lasting power of attorney ( LPA ).
We pride ourselves on providing a solution-focused service and are always thinking of ways to help our clients whether it is transactional or a private client matter .
Where does the name Savage Silk come from ? The name was carefully considered at the outset . We didn ’ t want it to be specific to someone in the business , because eventually the business owners will retire and the next generation will manage the firm .
We think there is a bit of ring to the name ; we wanted our clients to consider Savage Silk as a name that will be remembered for years to come . The reaction to the name has been really interesting – in a good way !
When did you open your office in the Tees Valley ? We established Savage Silk in 2014 on a farm near Hexham , believe it or not . Our first office was in Gosforth and after growing to four further offices , we decided to streamline the business when we were coming out of the pandemic .
As well as relocating our Gosforth office to Newcastle city centre , we opened another office at Durham Tees Valley Business Centre , before moving here at Preston Farm Business Park in May 2022 .
Why did you choose the Tees Valley ? We have always wanted to develop our business in the Tees Valley . We work with a number of clients who are based in the area and who have been with us for a long time . I know the local market very well , having worked here previously . So , it made sense to open an office here .
How are you finding the Tees Valley market ? The local area has gone through a massive transformation in the last few years . The people are friendly and we feel very much at home here . We have immersed ourselves in the business and networking events , including award dinners , that are available in the area , further strengthening relationships with prospects , clients and intermediaries .
The experience of working with people and clients here allows us to understand the market better . Tees Valley has a vibrant business community , from start-ups to medium and large-size enterprises , based in many sectors from digital , construction , education , manufacturing to professional services .
It ’ s exciting to see new businesses moving into the local area , creating further opportunity for collaboration and employment .
What impact has doing business in the Tees Valley had on Savage Silk ? Moving to the Tees Valley has been positive in many ways . It has allowed us to become more accessible to the local business scene .
It has demonstrated our commitment to this part of the region - local businesses like to see that . It has helped us to grow as a business and recruit local talent - and we are looking to recruit further . It is easier for clients to meet us at our office , with ample free parking available , or for us to visit them at their place of work or at home .
What is the long-term vision for the office in the Tees Valley ? We are still in the infancy stage of Savage Silk ’ s journey into the Tees Valley . We have many goals to reach and this includes establishing further commitment to corporate and social responsibility projects in the region .
We are also strengthening existing and new relationships with local schools and Teesside University , where we are developing a trainee solicitor and solicitor apprentice programme as part of our recruitment plans .
We want to create further opportunities for the next generation , including job creation in the Tees Valley . We want to invest in the team and technology , improving efficiencies in the workplace .
