STOCKTON-ON-TEES
And a word from the boss and the vagaries of Britain ’ s economic highs and lows , Jacksons has always been there for the people of Teesside – solid , dependable , trusted .
Its very existence is due to that initial influx of outside investment when Middlesbrough was born . And with the Tees Valley now arguably undergoing the area ’ s biggest transformation for decades , Jacksons continues to work with national and global companies wishing to invest in the area , while remaining one of the first names Teessiders look to for all their business and private legal needs .
THE PRESENT From offices in Stockton ’ s Preston Farm Industrial Estate , the BIC in Sunderland and Central Square , Newcastle , Jacksons covers the North-East , Northumberland , Cumbria and Yorkshire – so it ’ s no longer simply a Teesside firm , even if that region remains its heartbeat .
It employs more than 90 staff , including nine partners , more than 50 legally trained personnel and a team of specialists qualified in accounts and marketing .
Its specialisms are many and varied : regulatory , commercial property , corporate and commercial , employment , corporate recovery and insolvency , debt recovery , dispute litigation , wills , trust and probate , family , matrimonial and residential conveyancing .
In short , its experienced and dynamic team offers everything a modern full-service law firm should . But its priority is always

its clients – from individuals and families to public bodies and multi-site national organisations .
And its mission statement – “ we focus on delivering first-class results , providing real value and we strive to put our clients and our staff at the heart of our business ” – rings as true today as it ’ s ever done .
Jacksons has always been involved in what ’ s going on in the region , keeping its ears to the ground , knowing what the opportunities are and helping clients in any way it can .
Still passionate about the area that ’ s been its home since 1876 , Jacksons is represented on the legal panel for the Tees Valley Combined Authority ( TVCA ) – whose purpose is to secure investment , create jobs and grow the economy .
And as an ABS ( alternative business structure ) firm , it isn ’ t only lawyers that are running the company – non-lawyers are involved in the ownership , so they have a wider breadth of knowledge involved in managing the company and building the aspirations and strategy going forward .
THE FUTURE
At Jacksons Law Firm , its people are looked after and given opportunities to progress their careers rather than having to look elsewhere .
The latest partner , for example , Helen Milburn , head of wills , trusts and probate , has been with the firm since her training

Jacksons puts developing its own people at the heart of what it does – and the current boss is a good example .
At the helm of the firm he joined back in 1986 is managing partner Tony Wentworth , who took over from Jane Armitage two years ago .
And from the moment he took the hot seat , Tony – enthused and encouraged by the young talent in the team – was determined that Jacksons should rightly remain “ fixed and focused on the next generation ".
He said : “ We ’ ve got some really good younger people who are much more focused on the medium-tolong-term future now .”
He ’ s also hugely encouraged by the opportunities offered by the likes of the Teesworks site and the freeport .
He said : “ For the first time in a long time , we ’ re a region people are turning their gaze towards rather than turning their backs on , and that creates opportunities for all of us .”
days – likewise partner and head of commercial property , Erica Turner .
And there remains a keenness to nurture new talent , as shown by the provision of alternative routes for people looking to get into law who don ’ t necessarily want to go to university .
Jacksons has embraced solicitor apprenticeships , for example , where recruits gain hands-on experience and are paid , rather than get saddled with university debts , as they embark on their legal careers .
It is also happy to embrace digital , including a recently launched digital debt recovery service .
And by sponsoring a category at the recent Tees Tech Awards , Jacksons continues to show that while it may have been established in 1876 , it is very much a 2023 firm – always looking to the future to see what ’ s on the horizon during a hugely exciting time for the Tees Valley .
