Teesside Airport continues to flourish

You can live the high life at Teesside International Airport as major developments are making the hub even better – whether you ’ re travelling for pleasure or looking to do business .

There was a smooth take-off for the 2022 summer season , with Teesside recording its best year for more than a decade , welcoming some 173,000 passengers through its terminal – up more than 200 per cent on the previous year .
At the height of the season in July , the airport was named the UK ’ s most punctual , with delays of just 11 minutes and nearly half of all flights taking off early .
This level of service continued throughout the year , with Civil Aviation Authority data on flight delays during the year showing that it was the second most punctual airport for the whole of 2022 .
The average delay per departing flight at Teesside was just 14 minutes – more than half that of the airport with the longest delays ( 30 minutes ) and just one minute off grabbing the top spot .

Progress – Planning has been granted for Willis Aviation Services ' £ 25m Aviation Village and Jet Centre , which could bring 250 to 300 jobs . do away with the 100ml limit on liquids when passing through airport security .
The previous 100ml threshold on liquid containers has been upped to two litres for hand luggage , with the installation of two cutting-edge C3 scanners fully operational in security .
These high-tech scanners also remove the requirement for liquids to be placed in separate bags and for laptops and other electronic items to also be taken out ahead of scanning .
The government previously set a June 2024 deadline for airports to install new security technology to handle the new rules when they come into force – but they ’ re in place at Teesside right now .
The airport hasn ’ t rested in securing new and expanded services for holiday passengers . Ryanair has revealed that , from October 2023 , it will run services from Teesside to Alicante on Mondays , Thursdays and Sundays – three times per week , up from two .
The tickets will add an extra 20,000 seats to its service , in yet another vote of confidence for the airport .
It now means local people can get away to the popular Spanish city for breaks of three , six , seven , 10 , 11 and 14 nights .
Holidays for 2024 include TUI ’ s new service to Dalaman , Turkey , alongside its service to Majorca .
Ryanair will also continue to fly to Alicante all year round and Corfu , Faro and
Majorca in summer , with Balkan Holidays jetting you off to Bourgas , Bulgaria .
It ’ s not just good news for passengers – there ’ s plenty of excitement for businesses , too .
The airport ’ s fully accredited , £ 2.5m cargo handling facility is now up and running , becoming the UK ’ s newest Border Control Point ( BCP ), allowing it to also handle flowers , fruit and vegetables .
It places Teesside as one of the few BCPs to handle these goods in England – allowing both large and small local businesses to reap import benefits , while also offering a big boost to the airport ’ s freight vision .
Work is also underway on the first phase of the airport ’ s Business Park South , offering 2.8m sq ft of development opportunity across 270 acres south of the runway .
Willis Aviation Services ' £ 25m cuttingedge aircraft maintenance facility has also been given the green light for the airport site , with the potential to bring up to 300 jobs .
