The Teesside Freeport is the UK ’ s biggest and first operational Freeport . It spans 4,500 acres across Tees Valley , including rail-linked port sites and an international airport .
The Teesside Freeport is centred around Teesworks , the country ’ s largest industrial zone which is primed to become a leader in clean energy , offshore and advanced manufacturing . Next door Wilton International , Britain ’ s biggest chemical complex , is also part of the Freeport .
Freeports help boost international trade by giving exemptions from certain tax and customs requirements , such as no stamp duty , five years of zero business rates , employer NI contributions rate relief and enhanced capital allowances .
The Teesside Freeport is expected to create 18,000 jobs and add billions to the UK economy in the first five years .
