Going green – Etc .’ s Green Initiatives Group .
Etc . is delivering skills for greener futures
The colleges that make up the Education Training Collective offer a wide range of courses and modules that deliver knowledge and skills to prepare learners for careers in the clean and renewable energy sector .
Erika said : “ That means the small things that , together , can make a big difference – encouraging the use of reusable cups , cutting the number of letters sent by moving parent communication online , replacing items such as disposable plastic cutlery with more sustainable options , even switching lights off when you leave a room .”
For new students and school leavers , the colleges are also showing their commitment to our planet at the earliest point , making more environmentally friendly choices when it comes to the purchase of promotional items given out at open events .
But with developments such as Net Zero Teesside , the freeport and inward investment from industry giants leading the way in the clean and renewable energy sector on the college group ’ s doorstep , when it comes to the Tees Valley ’ s green journey , the group has a further part to play .
Jason Faulkner , principal of Redcar and Cleveland College , said : “ As an education provider at the centre of all that , it is essential we are ready to give
Hub – Redcar and Cleveland College principal Jason Faulkner .
people the knowledge and skills that will enable them to benefit from current and future jobs and meet employers ’ demands .”
That ’ s why Redcar and Cleveland College is building its Clean Energy Education Hub , with primary funding secured from the Town Deal Fund . With doors due to open on the £ 3.2m facility in January 2023 , it will deliver training for careers in the clean and renewable energy industry with courses for school leavers , apprentices and adult learners , including higher education , commercial and professional courses .
The college is working with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council , the combined authority and industry employers and experts , including bp , RWE Sofia Windfarms and Northern Gas Networks ( NGN ), to ensure the hub delivers the skills most needed .
Young people can look forward to numerous opportunities to have meaningful careers on their doorstep . As well as a commitment between bp and the college to bring community engagement and further development to the hub , there are dynamic plans to bring hydrogen for heating and cooking to areas of the town , as part of proposals to create the UK ' s first hydrogen village . It ' s no surprise then , that the green agenda is creating a real buzz for the college and the whole of the Tees Valley .
