“We Can Work It Out”

E

VEN THOUGH it may have been fifty years ago, every Huntington Beach Academy for the
Performing Arts’ and MMET student knows, that in 1965 there were “Eight Days A Week.” To
prove “We Can Work It Out,” student’s performed a chronology of everything the Beatles recorded
that year, kicking off their 2015-2016 performance season.

Built on same reasoning that students are taught Bach or Mozart, Co-Director Michael Simmons explained
that “They are planting precious seeds in fertile soil,” by having students cover “crusty 50 year old tunes.”
What I saw, however, was a genuine embrace of this music from these young artists—seeds that grew like
weeds.
