want self-actualization of their citizens,”
Fulwider admitted, but believes that the
basic premise of her article—that there
is not enough work to go around and we
have to accept and change our attitude
toward work— still holds true.
“You want idealism when you have
someone in college,” Fulwider argues.
“You want them to be idealistic and see
the future in a way that might be better
for the actualization of the human
personality.”
Sadly, she doesn’t think our leaders and
those with real power have enough
altruism in their hearts. “I don’t think
things have changed that much since I
wrote that thesis” says Cole Fulwider,
“labor saving devices are still taking our
jobs.”
Her Immense Good Nature
“She’s just got great opinions, she’s well
informed on politics and issues of the
day,” adds Dr. Laura King. But focusing
on Cole’s achievements, intellect and
interests shouldn’t overshadow Cole’s
immense good nature.
About fifteen years ago, Dr. Fulwider
booked a single room in Manhattan,
after deciding to attend her Annual
American Academy of Dermatology
Conference. At the last minute, Dr. King
decided that she too would attend the
conference but was unable, at that point,
to secure a room nearby. An invitation
was graciously extended by Cole for
Laura to stay with her.
Laura accepted Cole’s offer and drove up
from south New Jersey, where she had
been visiting her cousin. In tow, King
brought along her husband, kids and her
cousin, as well as her cousin’s husband
and kids. Abruptly, Laura King and
company, “invaded her hotel room and
so, eleven of us slept in this hotel room
that was meant for two people for a
couple nights,” said King, warmly
reflecting on Cole’s good nature. “I think
that she saw the possibility of having a
unique experience that we could talk
about for years” said Laura King, who
added, “we still talk about it—it was lots
of fun.”
She Really Shines With Surgery
Beyond her immense good nature, Dr.
King also describes Cole Fulwider as
being very reliable, generous and an
excellent Bridge player—be advised.
She’s very good with teenagers who
suffer from Acne too, but “her strength
