TOM’s Shoes are ubiquitous, and you probably already
know that when consumers purchase a pair, the company
donates another pair to someone in need. (They’ve donated
10 million pairs of shoes in over 60 countries so far.)
Many other companies have adopted the model as well,
turning the model into something of a baseline for many
direct-to-consumer companies. While the model itself has
some critics (they believe that it may not give impoverished
communities what they need most), it has most certainly
super-charged a new era of businesses making it dead easy
for consumers to satisfy their philanthropic urges. This is a
true win-win situation.
