We’re huge fans of 3D printing and 3D technologies here at Third Wave
Fashion. March was another month full of exciting new advancements.
FIRST-EVER 3D PRINTED DRESS
Burlesque dancer and Hollywood personality Dita Von Teese debuted
the first-ever 3D printed dress at a gala in New York City. Designed by
Michael Schmidt, the dress was created using digital rendering technology. Schmidt collaborated with 3D printing company Shapeways to
create the dress with powdered nylon. The final product was painted
black and covered in Swarovski crystals. See the beautiful result on this
report’s last page.

3D PRINTING VENDING MACHINES
In addition to movie tickets and bottled water, consumers can now get
3D printed items from a vending machine. Created by University of
California Berkeley graduates David Pastewka, Ricard Berwick and Will
Drevno, the Dreambox aims to revolutionize the 3D printing process,
making it as easy as “uploading or choosing a design online, clicking the
‘Print’ button and retrieving the item once it’s ready.”
