SALVADOR BROTONS CONDUCTOR AND COMPOSER ( Barcelona , 1959 )
As a composer , he has written more than 150 works , mostly orchestral and chamber , and has won several awards , including the Premio Orquesta Nacional de España ( 1977 ), the Jove d ’ Or award ( 1980 ), the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona ( 1983 and 1986 ), the Southeastern Composers League Award ( 1986 ), The Madison University Flute Choir Composition Award ( 1987 ) and the Queen Sofia Composition Award ( 1991 ). A good number of his works have been edited and also recorded on several CDs , both in Europe and in the United States . In our country he has been principal conductor of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra “ Ciutat de Palma ” ( 1997-2001 and 2009-2013 ), the Vallès Symphony Orchestra ( 1997- 2002 ) and the Barcelona Municipal Band ( 2007-2018 ) ). Since 1991 he has conducted the Vancouver Symphony ( United States ) and is currently also the principal guest conductor of the Banda Municipal de Barcelona . As a guest , he has conducted several orchestras in Israel , Germany , China , Belgium , Korea , France , Italy , Mexico , the United States and in our country . In addition , he combines an intense schedule as an orchestra conductor with the composition of a good number of commissions for works of all genres . He is a professor of orchestra conducting and composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya ( ESMuC ). In 2020 he has been honored with the Clark County Arts Commission Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of service to the SW Washington arts community .
