WHAT INSPIRED YOU DECIDE TO START A YOUR OWN BEAUTY PRODUCT BUSINESS?
I’ve always been on the lookout for the best lotions for my skin, most natural, and made responsibly. I
decided to attempt to make my own lotion based on what I love and gave it to friends as gifts and they
encouraged me to sell my product. I had no idea it would be something I would make into a business,
but after much feedback/encouragement, I decided to do it.  My biggest mantra in life since I decided
to go to Bali for a yoga training program has been: If it’s scary, it’s important. Going into business
and putting myself out there with this product... important & scary, but mostly important.
HOW ARE YOUR PASSIONS BEING PURSUED THROUGH YOUR CAREER?
I didn’t know this was a passion until I started, but I’ve learned that I have this creative bug
that drives me and it keeps me going. What makes me passionate about this is the process and
keeping in touch with the community of other makers.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED IN YOUR FIRST YEAR(S) OF STARTING A BUSINESS?
I’ve learned many key things in my first year: be nice, listen, plan, be patient, plan, experiment,
reach out to fellow crafters, be patient, network,have a plan of action,  keep dreaming... and repeat.
IN WHAT WAYS ARE YOU INVOLVED WITH YOUR COMMUNITY?
I have worked locally with various animal rescues and incorporate my yoga teaching and lotion
business into my community. I sell at local markets and in local businesses, I teach yoga in the
community and incorporate my lotion and use of essential oils when I teach. I also connect with
other local makers and am inspired by their processes and products.
WHAT MAKES YOU SO FOCUSED ON NATURAL INGREDIENTS?
Natural ingredients are so important, it ties into my yoga way.....to stay connected with the earth.
Be kind to ourselves...our earth and every part that helps me make my product. My shea is sourced
kindly....and it makes me happy every time I unpack it and process it.

WHAT ARE SOME BEAUTY, HEALTH, ETC TIPS GOING INTO THE SPRING SEASON?
I‘m a big fan of reading labels and less is best. Make sure you understand your labels and what
you are putting on your skin and in your body. Keeping it all so simple can really do so much for
your body.
WHERE CAN PEOPLE PURCHASE YOUR PRODUCTS?
I currently sell locally at markets, on my Etsy store, Orange Gallery, Lumus Wellness, and
Milwaukee Community Acupuncture. 
WHAT IS A COMMON QUESTION THAT YOU HEAR FROM CUSTOMERS?
One of the most common questions I am asked about my product is, “Why is it called McHatch’s?”
McHatch is a blend of my maiden name, Hatch, and my married name, McCann......our friends
have always referred to our home as the McHatch house, it became part of our name for our LLC
for our doggy day care that my husband and I previously owned and has really stuck with me.
Another question I hear a lot......will I be making baby products. My lotion is safe for children, in
fact my niece and nephew have been getting this stuff smeared on their adorable cheeks since
before I went into business officially.
HOW HAS TEACHING YOGA HELPED IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER?
Teaching yoga is very important to me, its an extension of my creativity and also allows me to give
love in attention to others. Teaching yoga is also one of the biggest honors I have experienced,
being able to be part of students human experiences that yoga has to offer. I love that my lotion
business and yoga seem to balance me and balance me. I also love bringing the essential oils into
my teaching and practice....as well as mixing into many of my body and facial blends.
