Last Season Premier League: 13th FA Cup: Semi-Finals League Cup: Second Round Top Scorer( all): Odion Ighalo( 16)
What does a man have to do in order to keep their job at Vicarage Road. Evidently, a highly respectable 13th place finish, coupled with a run to the Semi-Final of the FA Cup and money boosting Wembley appearance is not up to the lofty standards of the Pozzo family. Quiche Sanchez Flores is long gone, with Walter Mazzarri, last seen at Inter Milan in 2014 stepping in. No surprise an Italian was chosen to be the next in a long line of managers to try their luck with the Hornets. A fantastic first half of the season was in desperate contrast to a torrid second in 2016 in Watford ' s first top flight season since 06 / 07. Consistency will have to improve to avoid an unwanted, but increasingly likely relegation dogfight. Whatever happens, it is sure to be an interesting ride.
Who ' s in and who ' s out?
Isaac Success is in from Granada, bringing with him one of the leagues more memorable names. Promising Liverpool youngster Jerome Sinclair has joined. Juan Zuniga has also joined on loan, while Almen Abdi and Jurado are among those to leave the club.
Season expectations?
A wave of uncertainty once again after the replacement of another manager. The decision to axe Flores could be a long term disaster, but with the same squad that did well for enough of last season still in place, a similar finish can be expected. Another cup run would add some excitement on the pitch, as appose to drama off it.
What ' s their reality?
Hardly the most entertaining team to watch by any means, but they are efficient and have a game plan. Ighalo needs to recapture his form of old and Deeney needs another stellar season if Watford stand a chance of having a mid table stroll. There is the still the feeling that Flores was the right man for the job, but only time will tell.
Fixtures to look out for
A treacherous start. Southampton, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham. October is a key month in their season with games against teams who will be in and around them come May. Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, Swansea and Hull. They won ' t be pretty, but damn are they important.
