5.3. SETTING CASE STUDIES
Due to our decision of choose this mathematical-geometrical aproach. We will give some fundamental concepts about curvature based on topology. There are five types of surfaces in which we can apply the system.
• Planar Surface: planar pre-stress system
• Single curvature: semi-cilindrical
• Synclastic: dome-like
• Anticlastyc: saddle-like
• Free: experimental.
This thesis is oriented to the building industry that’ s why it was chosen tree types of architectural roofs: the dome, toroidal vault and freefrom surface. Their curvatures are synclastic and anticlastic. It had been chosen these ones in order to prove the tensile system adaptability in a complex architectural surface.
• Dome: synclastic surface
• Toroidal vault: synclastic and anticlastic surface.
• Free-from architectural roof

5.4. TOPOLOGY FRAMEWORK
It will be studied tree basics types of topologies. Triangular, quadrilateral and hexagonal. While there are many variations and combinations, we think that for this first stage of the research it is enough start with the basics. The topologies that will be shown in the document possess a reciprocal configuration. During the physical experimentation it was noticed that this approach was suitable to maintain the system in equilibrium, but it is considered that exist many others which qualify for this purpose.
Reciprocal frames allow functionality, efficiency and adaptability. Reciprocal frames comes from a rational patterns that represent optimal solutions for fabrication and constructability. Doubtless it will be studied theoric principles of the polyhedral surfaces and the euler-poincaré characteristic for surfaces. Also we will review som schematic examples of toroidal carbon nanotubes which allows us to solve the complex task of create a torus with topology.
