Favor Me
Sharon Dolin
“. . . and I am a mountain of strength .” — Psalm 30
Favor me and I will sing a mountain to you :
Though I have forgotten you though I have let my eyes seek After fleeting things though I have turned from your ways
Now let me remember you let me return And see the invisible inside the visible elevate
The holy inside the mundane though I have hearkened To strange music wrested my heart and head away Now in these fathomless hours at the head of the year
May my beginnings be abundant and sweet as the fish Whose head breaks the surface of the lake
For I will sing you a new song from the heights For you have hauled me up from the well of despond
And set me on this sure-footed path of your praise For this you have granted me one more year
I have called out to you among the trees Inside the breeze I have listened for you
I have sought your face in those I love I have loved your face in those I sought
Now when the shofar And pierces the numb splinters the light vestiges of doubt
Help me to find you everywhere help me to see The goodness of my nights and days
Even if you forsake me I will seek you Among thorny places and still your praises sing
Favor me one more year O lift me up .
