With Moses , who said the short , powerful prayer for healing , ה ל א נ א פ ר א נ ל א , ( God , please heal her ) 27 let ’ s invite the healers , the first responders , the doctors , nurses , therapists and the trauma specialists .
With Aaron , who led Bnei Yisrael when their faith faltered and whose descendants led through the priesthood , let ’ s invite the Jewish leaders around the world who led their communities through this crisis of faith , rallied support for Israel , and galvanized the Jewish people , a holy nation of priests .
With King David , a man of both war and poetry , let ’ s invite the brave soldiers of the IDF who are protecting the country , civilians , and Jewish sovereignty in the land .
While we participate in the mitzvah of remembering in our sukkot , we can take joy in knowing that our spiritual ancestors have prepared us for this moment . Our contemporary guests remind us of what ’ s at stake and why sitting in a sukkah is symbolic of Am Yisrael . These invitations are a call for God to help us by spreading over us a canopy of peace , a cloud of glory . And for God to remember and uphold His promise :
I will restore My people , Israel . They shall rebuild ruined cities and inhabit them ; They shall plant vineyards
