It ' s a tossup between the Celeron 300A and the 2600K . Both offered great results despite being easy enough for an absolute beginning to do after a few minutes of Google .
You were previously far more active in extreme overclocking , then obviously took a long break . Are you back in the sport again or are you just doing it for fun and educational purposes only ?
I ' m actually not sure . Back when I started it was a lot easier to get manufacturer support . Us ( as Team South Africa ) would get together on a monthly basis with a tray or two of CPUs from Intel and a slew of graphics cards and motherboards . Sometimes the LN2 costs would even be covered .
These days I get the odd bit of support here and there , but for the most I have to fend for myself . That makes it difficult to compete , but no less fun . During the break ,
I was actually still active , I just didn ' t share my results . I did a good amount of LN2 and DICE with VPII with several sessions each year , but it was purely for fun and I ' d leave everything to him to publish . The TL ; DR version will probably be " going forward , a bit of both ."
If you had to say there was one individual or team which inspired you to get started , who would that be and why ?
When I initially started I honestly didn ' t know there was another person in the world overclocking , but over time I would say there have been five that have been truly inspirational to me - duck , giannigt , stunned _ guy , knopflerbruce and Kingpin .
Most overclockers have a “ classic era ” or period in which they believe overclocking was at its best . Do you have such a time period and if so ,
when was it , or do you prefer the present climate ?
Without a doubt the Socket 939 / nForce 4 days were the best for me . I enjoyed overclocking to the extent that I once excused myself early from Christmas lunch to fire up the Prometeia Mach 2 !
Who do you usually have overclocking sessions with if anyone and how often are you having these LN2 sessions ?
When I was still in Cape Town I used to have sessions with VPII , but since moving up country I ' ve been having them alone . As for frequency , I ' m aiming to get it back to at least once per month .
If you could only pick a single brand of components to buy hardware from , which brand would that be and why is that ?
I ' m scared to answer this . I loved Abit , they disappeared . I loved DFI ,
