QA with with ( Jonathan ) “ Oj0 ” ( Horne )
Country Name and City : South Africa , formally Cape Town but now Johannesburg
What language ( s ) do you speak in addition to English if any ? A little bit of Afrikaans if I can ' t avoid it
Your nickname “ Oj0 ”, where did it come from and does it have any particular meaning ? Is it a big O , small j and a zero or the other way around ?
It ' s got some fairly boring background to it . When I was a toddler I had the nickname " Jo-Jo " from my parents and when I tried to write it I ' d write the Js upside down . If you flipped the page it would read oJ-oJ , which lead to me becoming Oj to my family . The zero was added to the end because most forums require at least three characters in your username , and zero was the first thing that came to mind .
When did you start overclocking and on what platform was it on and why did you overclock at all ?
My first overclock was an accident on Socket 7 when I set the FSB ( using jumpers on the motherboard ) on my Pentium 120 to 66MHz by accident and ended up with it running at 133MHz . Back then I didn ' t have Internet and there was no coverage of overclocking in local magazines so I had no idea that what I was doing was actually a " thing ."
It was only the following year that I started buying cheap imported magazines and learned some of the ins and outs , leading to my first purposeful overclock on a Celeron 300A ( I still have it to this day ) and then the discovery of PowerStrip to
6 The OverClocker Issue 40 | 2017 overclock my TNT2 . I overclocked it to get better performance in the games I was playing back then , and that remained the reason to overclock for over a decade . These days I do it purely for fun - my 24 / 7 rig is running stock these days .
On which forum or forums do you spend the most time or share your overclocking results ?
Back in the early to mid 2000s it was mainly a local forum called SystemShock , then I moved to XtremeSystem and the now defunct Ripping . org , and later Carbonite ( another local forum ) and KPC . These days I ' ll post on a forum if I think about it , but mainly I just submit to HWBOT .
What are you looking forward to overclocking in 2017 in particular ?
I ' m certainly overdue to put a Kaby Lake CPU under LN2 . I ' ve had some great results on air / AIO coolers , but I haven ' t actually touched LN2 since November .
What would you say is more exciting for you to overclock , GPUs , VGAs , Memory or all of it ? CPU for sure . VGA can offer more rewarding results , but there is a lot more to overclocking a CPU .
What was the easiest GPU or motherboard / CPU for you to OC of all time ?
