Because
…er…words!
Welcome to the first issue of 2012 and our biggest
one in a while. Lots of stuff in this issue we’ve
compiled for your reading pleasure. There’s a lot
more we wanted to fit in but we’ll leave all that
goodness for Issue 19. With 2011 well behind us we
can hopefully look forward to an exciting year, with
new records and technologies. More than that we
can hopefully see the true return of 3DMark2K1
provided Ivy-Bridge does indeed clock much better
than Sandy-Bridge in general. We can truly say
goodbye to the X48/775 combo as the platform to
beat (Discounting the one in a million 6GHz capable
2600K CPUs).
There have been some amazing
overclocking endeavours since the
last time I had to write this. Not only
did we get a great new GPU in the
form of the 7970, but some truly
remarkable X79 motherboards have
been released. We’ll be taking a
look at a few of them in this issue so
be sure not to miss that. This Ed’s
note is a little more formal than the
previous ones, however it is worth
saying that we take you, our readers’
a seriously and as one charged with
spearheading the publication in some
direction, some sense of decorum is
required of me and this is about as
serious as I’m ever likely to get and
besides, this isn’t Reader’s Digest.
Be it you love or hate it, we shall
delve further into the past and take
an honest look at action stars and
other appropriate figures of which
have helped define popular culture.
From Black Belt Jones to Spectreman, heroes in corduroys and crime
fighters who believed in elbow pads,
we’ll look at them all. After all, this
is our passion and our calling. The
90s are still too fresh a tragedy to
make fun off but as soon as the pain
of Jheri curls and box cuts subsides
we’re sure to find some good
3 The OverClocker Issue 18 2012
memories somewhere. Until then it’ll
be shoulder pads and chest hairs.
Everything that epitomized decades
passed. We will return fondly to a
time where the future that was 2012
had levitating cars, teleportation and
oddly enough, displays that were
dome shaped CRTs.
On a more serious note though,
some changes will be coming for
TheOverclocker in the next twelve
month, but believe us when they say
they are for the better. Not only will they
result in a bigger and better magazine,
but one that can be viewed on more
platforms. (We’re talking to you all
who use tablets and other mobiles to
read the magazine). We are also toying
with the idea of coming in glorious 3D
at a Cinema near you, ready to make
your eye’s bleed for a small fee and a
migraine. Don’t really have much else
to say, will leave this note here before it
turns into a mindless rant about what
I didn’t like about 2011. (And honestly
I don’t care and I’d be hard pressed to
find anyone who does) With that said
we’d like to wish you a great 2012 and
looking forward to seeing you next time
around. Enjoy the issue.
