Chaos Karts
Make Real collaborated with Little Lion Entertainment to combine electric karts with digital gaming in the physical world. We developed a game that includes a library of tracks, and powerups for players to sabotage each other with. The tracks, SFX, power ups, back drop and animations are all virtual and displayed via projection mapping to the floors and walls. We use real-time tracking and positional data of each kart to enable virtual game play within what would otherwise be an empty space – each system had to integrate seamlessly for the ultimate immersive and safe karting game. While we are technology agnostic, we frequently create content for, and combine, off-the-shelf technologies such as motion tracking with display and projection systems.
An example of our work can be found in the the F1 Drive and Chaos Karts experiences where our software and game content integrates the various tracking and in-kart / trackside display systems.

Our integration with the tracking systems means we know, in real-time’ when racers are headed for a collision so we can automatically slow or stop the karts or prevent cheating from cutting virtual corners. The project was delivered in close collaboration with Biz-karts, Blacktrax, and 7th Sense, whose technologies and expertise were fundamental in bringing the concept to life. Chaos Karts has been deployed to Manchester, Dubai and soon London.
