THE LOWDOWN
The Puttalam Peninsula on the west coast
is the area of Sri Lanka that has recently
opened up to kiteboarders from around the
world, due to the trade wind consistency,
myriad butter-smooth lagoons, and a
lifestyle that is both laid back and non-
expensive. Arugam Bay on the east coast
is also an old favorite that continues
to draw a faithful kite contingent. And
should the wind drop, this is an island
with plenty of potential for adventure…
KITING SET UP
Lagoons aplenty with silky flat waters
made just so by gentle offshore breezes
makes for some pretty darn perfect (and
reliable) freestyle options up and down
the coast. Hook up with Kitesurfing
Lanka to make the most of their prime,
butter-flat and crowd-free spot, or ask
their advice on other nearby and highly
favorable spots, many of which they can
get you to via a catamaran!
