However , out of pocket payment became challenging for me and in 2011 , I applied for the Fulbright Scholarship . I was successful and subsequently , completed a Ph . D in Business Administration specializing in Hospitality and Tourism Management at the Washington State University in the USA . Pursing my terminal degree was for me a satisfying life goal ; it is an amalgamation of my academic and work experiences . It has also lead the way in me becoming an Associate Professor and academic manager .
TBWM : I ' m impressed that you are always thinking about what is next for you , and I want to backtrack a bit . I want to know who influenced you and might have caused you to think of what is next , or was it your intrinsic motivation ? Dr . Sinclair-Maragh : It is a mixture of family , friends , and being internally motivated . The importance of education was instilled in my home . Back in the day , my father would subscribe to the Reader ' s Digest and this kept us very informed of what was happening worldwide from a young age . There were also the Sunday newspaper , comics and novels ; hence , reading was more than a hobby ; it was a way of life within our home . I believed that created my interest in academia and research ; I always wanted to know more . Our home was humble , but education was priority . Coupled with that , I always had the intrinsic drive and innate desire to impart and share my knowledge to make other people ’ s lives better . I am always desirous of ameliorating myself and others as well . In fact , I identified these inner yearnings from a very early age when my primary school teachers would actually use me as a ‘ tutor ’ in their classes to help other students to read and write . My Sunday School teachers would do similar . I also have very good friends to whom I am extremely grateful . They always encourage me to reach my highest potential .
