Sister

by Juniper Promise
Sister , you hold the universe in your soul And the world in your hands . May your thoughts quicken spirits to change , And pull at heartstrings . You compel me to freedom , To love and to action . So much has been thrown at you , But you managed to pull Your way through the mire .
Sister , I see you trying to keep your head above water and marching to your own drum . I have seen you use everything sent to take you off course And created a mosaic ; And when they asked you how you do it , You told them you go with God . Sister , can you introduce me to this “ God ” you speak of ?
Sister , tell me why you walk with the gentleness of a dove But have the fierceness of a lion ? Tell me why your hands and heart are opened to even the least of men ? Tell me how the nightingales sing to you , Why the sun kisses your skin , Why the streams flow toward you , And why the earth gives you of her bounty ? Tell me how the weapons form but never prosper , How grace and favor shield you ?
Sister , I beg you to tell me why you have pearls in your hair , prayers in your crown and the kiss of heaven on your face ? Tell me of the glow you emanate , the effervescence of your spirit ? You are the Bible some read , The truest expression of love .
Sister , I see that charm does not deceive you , that vanity is not your friend and that lust eludes you . Tell me , you who are fairer than rubies , how you shine so brightly in a world seeking to snuff out your light ?
Sister , I dream of walking with your grace , facing challenges with your strength , Living with open arms , making wisdom the ornaments which keep my crown together , To love with the faith of a child , to be as cunning as a fox , and to bring each soul I meet closer to the light .
Sister , I know you do not need another crown , but if I had one , I would lay it at your feet . I am here to cheer you on , To fix your crown , To celebrate your successes as though they were mine . You got this ! We got this . Shine on …
