H
enrik Stenson captured the Tour
Championship and FedEx Cup crowns
after finishing 13-under at the East
Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Swede, who led wire-to-wire, carded a
two-under 68 in the final round to grab a
three shot lead and walk away with the Tour
Championship title and the $10 million FedEx
Cup prize.
Stenson's world ranking fell to as low as No. 230
at one point in 2012 but 2013 has been a stellar
year for the 37-year-old as he came second at
the Open Championship in July and third at the
US PGA Championship in August before going
on to win the Deutsche Bank Championship
earlier this month.
"Since the Scottish Open it's just been an
incredible run and I don't know what to say,"
Stenson said. "I am speechless. The results I
have produced and to hang in there – it was a
tough day out there today – I'm really satisfied.
"The first two and a half rounds was incredible
tee to green. I had a couple of hiccups on the
back nine in the bad weather on Saturday and
to be honest I didn't feel that confident with my
game, I had to battle it a little today but I am
very pleased and proud with the way I kept it
together. To win both these trophies today feels
unbelievable."
20-year-old rookie Jordan Spieth made eight
birdies on his way to a superb six-under 64,
taking second place alongside Tour veteran
Steve Stricker (65) at 10-under.
Webb Simpson posted a seven-under 63, the
lowest round of the day, to finish fourth at nineunder while Dustin Johnson (69) and US Open
champion Justin Rose (67) were fifth and sixth
at eight- and seven-under respectively.
