Boy, did we get it right.
We stayed at the Hotel
Metropole, in a village called
Condette, which is less than five
minutes from Hardelot.
I am not going to try to kid
you that this is a five-star hotel
because it most certainly isn't.
It is run by Joanne Pitten and
her French husband, Michel,
and from the moment you walk
through the front door you know
you have made the right choice.
Joanne makes you feel welcome
and will encourage you to treat
the place like a home from home.
The rooms are spacious, warm
and clean (but don't expect
boutique hotel standard) and the
food is superb.
Naturally, your evening meal
consists of three courses, with
the starter and main course
prepared by Michel and the
desserts made by Joanne, who
does a mean fruit crumble.
Families stay here too, and most
of the guests are repeat business,
50
which tells you everything you
need to know.
In the morning, you will be sent
on your way with a full English
breakfast.
Room rates provide fantastic
value for money For a small
additional fee, Joanne offers her
guests the run of the bar. In other
words, you can drink as much as
you want, as long as you want, as
late as you want. She will simply
go to bed and leave you to it.
How good is that?
There is a games room
containing four full-size snooker
tables and there is satellite TV in
the bar area.
Come on, answer me truthfully –
you go away for a weekend with
some golfing buddies and what
more could you possibly want?
We are already booked in for
next year. Sorry Joanne!
