ngland's David Howell
won his first tournament
for more than seven
years with a play-off victory
over American Peter
Uihlein in the Dunhill Links
Championship.

Howell carded a final round
of 67 at St Andrews to set the
clubhouse target and then
watched as overnight leader
Uihlein missed from 15 feet for
a winning birdie on the 18th.
Both men made pars at the
first play-off hole - the first THEZONE / ISSUE 25

but Howell rolled in a 10foot downhill birdie putt
on the 18th green to claim
his first title since the BMW
Championship at Wentworth
in 2006.
Uihlein, who had been two
shots clear going into the final
round after following Friday's
60 at Kingsbarns with a 65
at St Andrews on Saturday,
recorded a closing 69 as he and
Howell finished one ahead of
Ireland's Shane Lowry (68) and
England's Tom Lewis (64).
