Former Wales and Millwall striker Steve Lovell produced a stunning final round to surge through the field and win the 2013 Addison Lee Footballers ’ Golf Classic at La Manga Club – his second victory in the last three years .
Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish was among those having to take a backseat as Lovell , the 2011 champion , shot 39 Stableford points on the resort ’ s renowned South Course to leapfrog overnight leader , ex-Reading , Cardiff and international teammate Andy Legg , and claim the title with 101 points .
Remarkably , Lovell has now finished in the top two of the event for the last five years , but his prospects of success looked slim going into the final day as he trailed Legg by six points .
Legg led with 68 points after 36 holes , two clear of ex-Everton and Scotland star Graeme Sharp and former Wigan and Ipswich manager Paul Jewell , with Lovell only fourth .
But as the winner mounted his final-day charge , Legg ’ s challenge faded in the Spanish sunshine and he eventually finished three points adrift of Lovell on 98 points , one ahead of Sharp with Jewell and Dalglish finishing tied for fourth , four points further back .
