The Zimbabwean Gardener Issue 3 Summer 2012 | Page 3

Welcome letter And down came the rain and washed it all away.. Weren’t we lucky to get those rains in October to cool things down a bit? What I love most about the first rains is that it gives Harare a ‘good wash’ and it perks everything up a bit. The dust is washed away from the dry winter and everything seems to come to life again. I always feel the rains give Zimbabwe a good spring clean! Talking about cleaning up, I am sure many of you have seen the work done by Miracle Missions’ Green and Clean in Harare. They are doing a great job of making Harare a cleaner and more beautiful place to live in. They are getting communities and businesses involved by cleaning up neighbourhoods, putting up bins around town, getting companies to adopt a piece of verge or roundabouts and making us all aware of how we should be protecting our wetlands. If you want to play a part in cleaning up your neighbourhood, get in touch with Sharon Hook at [email protected] and she’ll guide you through the process. Why don’t you make it your New Year’s resolution? Well, I hope you all have a wonderful time over the festive season with your family and friends. With all the hard work you have put into your gardens this year, make sure you make the most of them this Christmas. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2013! Kari P.s. Your feedback is always much appreciated. Email me your ideas of what you would like to see in the magazine in 2013 and you will be entered in a draw for a free annual subscription.
