naartjie, lemon and mint. If you like it
slightly bitter, add grapefruit! I sometimes
just like grapefruit on its own, as it is very
refreshing!
4. Pineapple, mint and grated ginger mix
is delicious and tropical.
5. Watermelon and rosemary - rosemary
is also overpowering, so don’t add too
much.
Be naughty
Have fun infusing herbs with alcoholic
drinks, too – a lavender flower looks and
tastes great in champagne!

Homemade ice lollies
With the abundance of fruit around this
summer, there is nothing more refreshing
than having a homemade fruit and honey
ice lolly. Make them the day before as it
usually takes at least six hours for them to
freeze. Ice lolly moulds are available in
Zimbabwe; I bought mine at the Plastic
Shop in Borrowdale Village. I have my
favourite fruity flavours but you can use
any fruit you like.
Pawpaw
Use a cup of pawpaw, a teaspoon of
honey diluted in a spoon of warm water,
a small squeeze of lemon and a quarter
of a cup of orange juice (or water). Blend
well and pour into the ice lolly mould.
You can replace the pawpaw with mango
for another option.
Peach ice lolly
This is everyone’s favourite and if you
want to be naughty, you can replace the
quarter cup of apple juice or water with
a spoon of vanilla ice cream to make it
more decadent. Blend a cup of chopped
fresh peaches, a teaspoon of honey
diluted in a spoon of warm water, and the
optional ice cream or apple juice. Then
pour into the ice lolly mould.
