the farmers markets
beautiful arrays of mouth-watering
homemade fudge, cakes, muffins and
treats for sale at the markets. These are
perfect to share with friends and family,
or just for those times when you have a
sweet tooth.
What’s new?
There is always something new and
exciting to find at the market. Have you
tried our local mongongo or marula
nuts? Marula nuts are soft and tasty
like pine nuts and are a much cheaper
replacement, especially if you are making
pesto. There is also an international array
of delicious treats from fresh French
croissants to delicious samoosas and
curries. And for us gardeners: Peter Piper
sells an extensive array of daylilies.
Support the Local Community
The heath benefits alone of sourcing
your produce from the markets could
be reason enough to support them,
but the benefit to the local community
is immense. These markets provide a
bustling hub of activity with positive
vibes that truly instil a desire to promote
our local vendors; they also provide
opportunities to really know the story
behind the farmers and their products.
Kirsty Benning, who opened the Jam Tree
Market in August of this year, told me that
she was originally inspired to provide
a platform for talented and innovative
people. Ditch the supermarket shopping
trolley and do your shopping outdoors
in the beautiful tranquil settings of these
markets!
