Unity in repetition
As you drive into the Bottom Drawer,
the outside of the garden is lined with a
simple repetition of duranta standards,
lavender and erigeron. The repetition
has added interest by using only three
plants, making it simple yet appealing.
In landscaping they usually say that
‘three is unity’.
However, it is important to understand
that there’s a fine line when using plants
for repetition. Too many of one plant can
make a garden feel uninteresting, boring
and monotonous, while too many
unrelated objects can make the garden
look cluttered and unplanned. These
girls have got it spot on!
