Garden profile Shade is the ‘in’ thing During this horrendously hot summer with little rain, I am sure the one thing most of us are grateful for is the cooling shade in the garden. The Bottom Drawer has an abundance of shade in its garden, and therefore, hardy shade-loving plants have been planted beneath the trees. Most shade plants have more green foliage than flowers, which makes the areas under the trees look more lush and inviting. If you have a lot of shade, go for the lush foliage look by planting ferns, grasses, cycads and delicious monsters. It is always better to plant en masse, especially with the grasses, to get more impact. Arum lily Zantedeschia aethiopica Liriope grass Liriope spicata Wild rhubarb Acanthus mollis 13
