Garden profile
The Juniors
The junior boarding houses have been surrounded by beds
filled with ‘girlie’ colours; lots of pinks and purples can be
seen, with splashes of blue Agapanthus, Penstemon, bright
Cannas, Fuchsias, Geraniums and a wide variety of annuals.
When these large beds are in full bloom, they give a majestic
splash of bold colours, bursting in vibrancy, and just waiting
to be surreptitiously picked and used by girls hoping to win
the annual flower arranging competition. You almost taste
the fresh floral fragrances as you walk through the gardens,
which host a large variety of insects and birdlife.
A note from Jo,
“Add a splash of orange and yellow amongst
pinkish beds to give it a bit of a ‘zing’.”
The New Boarding Houses
Each of the three new boarding houses has a different
garden within the courtyard of their walls, set against brick
style beds.
A beautful bed of Alyssum, Daisies and Purple heart
One is filled with tropical palms and giant ornamental
bananas, which give a cool atmosphere, another has a
variety of grasses planted between the lawn and walkways,
and the hostel with an English garden is appropriately called
‘Elizabeth’. These beds break up the hard lines of the bold
pathways.
A note from the Form 4 girls,
“We like to sit and study in the gardens.”
“The gardens make us feel at home.”
“They are bright and cheery.”
“The gardens are much better than my Mum’s!”
