This season’s vegetable
Broccoli is filled with all the goodness
that we should be getting in our diet;
it is high in vitamin C, dietary fibre and
it also contains multiple nutrients with
anti-cancer properties. Just be careful
not to overcook broccoli, as you will let
up to 50 % of the goodness go down
the drain.
It is easier to grow
broccoli in winter
because it wil often be
attacked in summer.
If you grow broccoli from seed, it
takes about 6 weeks from seed to
transplanting size and then after
transplanting, it takes 2 and a half
months for them to fully mature. Try
and plant hybrid varieties as they
will form a tighter head, grow more
uniformly and you will be able to grow
them all year. There are a variety of
places in Harare where you can buy
seedlings if you don’t want to wait.
