Q: How did
photography?
you
start
in
It was by pure accident that I became
a photographer at all because my
original intention was to become
a journalist – I had always had an
interest in newspapers.
I was pushed into photography by
my lack of educational qualification
though I had already become
interested in photography at a
very low-level - I had done a bit of
developing in my own darkroom
(actually, the family bathroom).
But I don’t regret this unexpected
change of direction at all. It was a
very lucky thing, indeed. English
had always been my strongest
subject at school and I still enjoy
literature but I am very grateful that
I ultimately did become involved in
photography and I’m still here.
