I enjoy volunteering my time both as an
optometrist and as a photographer with
NGO’s and documenting their work. There
are some really amazing individuals and
organizations out there. Whatever I do make
from my photography, like sale of my prints,
calendars and prize money, I donate all the
proceeds to Seva Canada or a local charity
in the country in which the photo is taken
from. It’s my way of giving back to the places
I have received so much warmth and joy in
my travels.
special, and every trip an
exciting adventure and a
real treat. Not being able to
photograph all the time makes
me cherish the limited time and
the stories I am struggling to
tell through my photographs.
It makes me 100% more focus
to get the work done, and get
the story out to the best of my
abilities. As for balancing the two careers,
it is not that much of a struggle. When I
am home in Edmonton, Canada, I am an
optometrist, and my camera is put away.
And when I travel, I am the photographer. I
do admit I spend a lot of time looking at other
photographers’ work while I am at home and
also doing research on my next project. I am
actually quite an avid fine art photography
collector and really appreciate a good print.
Sometimes it is a struggle and there are times
that I do wish I had more time to photograph,
but that is also what makes every project
