Message from the chairman

Greetings members and a Happy New Year to you all.

2013 was a fairly successful year for us as an organization and we thank God for that. We organized nine successful business and professional talks addressed by notable Kenyans who are themselves well accomplished in their careers and businesses. We Organized five book club meetings and read five books and lastly we had a very colorful and successful sports day and end of year gala night.

It is my hope you managed to attend and participate in a majority of them and that you learnt something, got inspired and/or you were challenge to be a better you and even to grow yourself or your business to the next level.

2014 promises to be even a better year. The LYP leadership team is upbeat, enthusiastic and deeply committed to make the year quite rewarding for all our members. While as officials we have specific and constitutional mandate to executive that you don’t have, you nevertheless have real responsibilities among them being

1.To be Active. LYP benefits are best hernessed by members who remain active and consistent in their participantation in the many avenues provided. We have seen members grow to take up leadership positions in different sectors of our economy. i therefore urge you to remain active in our activities to maximise their benefits.

2.To be a Contributor. LYP is a membership organization whose shareholders and stakeholders are its members, and its size is dependent on members’ contribution to the club in terms of time, effort, ideas, finances and skill.

3.To Be Committed - There is no such person as a“ half hearted” LYP member. LYP has a philosophy; it has a soul. It also requires commitment to its ideals from members. It requires dedication to hard work and it calls for deep understanding of other members need and aspiration.

Four things is I want to bring to your attention as we start our calendar year

1.LYP investment is now ready for business. The steering committee has been working hard for the last four month to lay down the framework and structures and will be calling upon all of you interested in investing to do so, starting from next month, February.

2.For the last four years we have been having one talk a month. This year and moving forward we shall have two talks when and where applicable. This we believe will give you a larger set of speakers and a wider array of topics to listen to.

3.We will be working hard to strengthen LYP Foundation and other LYP chapters, namely LYP Mombasa and Kisumu, and extend to other counties too.

4.Lastly, the theme for last year was “Kusema na Kutenda/ Say it and do it”, a call to all members and officials to fulfill their promises and commitment. This year I ask you to Experience and Extend LYP. Experience LYP by knowing each one of the other club member’s well, at a personal, business and professional level and learn how they can be useful to you in and outside the club. Experience LYP by being active in many of our talks, book club, investments and other club activities. Extend LYP by inviting your friends and colleagues join this club.

Always remember we are all working to make LYP the first place of choice for professionals to interact, share, learn and grow. That is our vision.

Wish you a great year ahead, and may the wishes and desires of your heart come true this year

Francis Chege

Chair, LYP Nairobi.
