Namo’s Policies that Did Not Go Well With the People The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has completed 365 days in office. It’s been a year since the nation’s most promising government has been in power. During last year’s elections, the government had set a lot of expectations, but there are some decisions that we do not agree with. As the Modi government marked its first year in office, the media and people both criticized as well as appreciated their performance. While the government’s performance in certain sectors has been applauded, as explained in the previous edition of this paper, some of their decisions have been condemned. A period of one year is definitely too short to judge any government’s performance. Not forgetting the fact that India had faced severe crisis with the second term of the UPA government, it would definitely take some time for the new government to revive the country’s economy and outlook. However, as the BJP had promised ‘ache-din’, we did not see many of the schemes being executed. It is easy to initiate schemes, but the larger question lies in their implementation and execution. The ‘Total Sanitation Campaign’ and ‘Beti Bachao Andolan’ are schemes that we all know India requires at this moment. Yet, how many government officials or the Prime Minister himself initiated visits to states where the problems exist? Do they have a clear understanding of such problems? Why do they exist? What is the root cause to it? The Prime Minister has largely concentrated on foreign trips over the year. It is definitely a helpful task as India needs to open doors for foreign investment to improve its economy. Yet, for a Prime Minster, it is convenient and easy to make such trips at any point of time. It would have been better if the Prime Minister had made some visits to the rural belts of the country too. Furthermore, the rate of unemployment has hardly changed over the year. Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative has been criticized largely even by the foreign media. Service tax has increased. Furthermore, the ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan’ hasn’t borne much results. The Government, however, has much to-do. On the brighter side, they still have a four years left. We do hope India does witness some ‘ache-din’ during this tenure of the NDA government. http://www.buzzoop.com/india/25-fun-caricaturecartoon-narendra-modi/
