And the Earthquake Strikes Again in Nepal
Nepal was struck by
another earthquake
this Tuesday on 12
May, 2015. Until now,
65 people have reportedly died and 1,962
people have been injured due to the earthquake Measuring 7.3
on the Richter Scale. A
second tremor measuring 6.3 hit Nepal again
just after 30 minutes of
the first quake.
The tremors were also
felt in parts of Northern
India, Bihar, Patna,
Siliguri, West Bengal,
Uttar Pradesh and Assam, causing panic and
damage, leading to the
death of at least 80
people.
concerned authorities to be on alert for rescue and relief operations
as required.
The quake has caused severe
landslides. Furthermore,
some experts are now pointing to chances of increased
landslides in the upcoming
monsoon season.
Furthermore, Nepal continues to be jolted by aftershocks causing
serious damages to some villages and rocks and mud crashing down
remote hillsides lined with roads and small hamlets.
As Nepal is facing severe crisis, its people have been under panic and despair as this
quake spreads more depression. People are still struggling with the devastation
caused by the big earthquake
just three weeks back which
killed more than 8,000 people
there.
Just minutes after the earthquake, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi took charge and
called out to deploy rescue
operations. He directed the

lack of sanitation and
people are defecating in
the open, causing bacteria to multiply.
Many people feel that the tragedy and
damage caused by the Earthquake lasts
only for a few seconds and there after
lives need to move on. However not
many realize that post such mass scale
disasters, a lot of diseases and epidemics can erupt.
The damage isn’t limited to over 8,000
deaths and 16,000 injuries. People have
lost homes. And those whose houses
are still in tact are not sure about the
foundation any more. More so, the

aid as soon as possible.
There is lack of clean
drinking water and most
of the food that is air
dropped, gets wasted.
Hunger causes people to eat this contaminated
food.
In fact there is information that cholera has
already started spreading.
This only goes to show, that when a disaster
strikes, the problems only begin.
While India prides itself in helping in the rescue
operations, we need to realize that the first
steps we undertook were limited to ferrying
Indians back. Though airplanes are dropping
off medicines, and food, the supply is fairly limited. Rescue teams haven’t yet reached remote
areas which have been massively impacted.
It’s only in such times that one realizes that
everyone is equal in the eyes of god. There is
no rich, no poor, and everyone is equally impacted by nature’s wrath.
