The Young Chronicle: For Grade 3 January 9th, 2015 | Page 3

YOUNG CHRONICLE November 28th , 2014 Governor’s Rule in J&K Rambo and Pranks were quite kicked when the Jammu and Kashmir elections took place. They had studied the history of Jammu and Kashmir in depth and shared their understanding of the entire situation in Kashmir, in a previous issue of The Young Chronicle. They had also closely monitored the election results and compared them with the previous election results. But now, they are quite surprised at the delay in the formation of the government. If you look up the archives of The Young Chronicle, you would see that the Peoples’ Development Party and the BJP had won 28 and 25 seats respectively; and the National Mr. Omar Abdullah Conference and the Congress Party won 15 and 12 seats respectively. To get a majority and form a government, 44 seats are needed, and this can only happen if the PDP and BJP join hands and form what is called a collation government. This collation however, seems to be taking time. In the interim period, till the new government is formed, Omar Abdullah (The last Chief Minister) has been asked to continue to act as a ‘Caretaker’ Chief Minister. Omar Abdullah had happily agreed, but since he has no real powers now, he feels it would be unfair to stay as a ‘Caretaker’ when Jammu and Kashmir has border tensions and winter to deal with. He feels, the state Mr. N. N. Vohra needs a real leader ‘with powers’. To convey his views, he visited the governor of J&K, Mr. N.N. Vohra, yesterday. Mr. Omar Abdullah asked Mr. Vohra to relieve him of the responsibility of being the caretaker CM. Rambo and Pranks were very worried for Jammu and Kashmir. They wondered what would happen if no one took leadership responsibilities there. It was only when their Mumma explained that J&K would go under Governor’s rule, were Rambo and Pranks relieved. Mahendra Singh Dhoni Retires from Test Cricket M.S Dhoni, decided to retire from test cricket. Test Cricket is a long format of the game, where a match lasts about 5 days. The game is usually slow, and is not played very often these days, since people prefer watching matches that get over in a day. Dhoni’s retirement shocked many. The announcement was sudden, as he had not indicated that such a decision was coming. Some people have linked his retirement to India’s bad performance in the last Test Series with Australia. But Dhoni claims that playing many formats of the game, T20, One Day Matches, and Test Matches, was getting stressful and he wanted to concentrate on the One Day Innings Matches and T20s. Dhoni has been one of the best captains India has had. It was under his captaincy that India rose to be the number one team in the world. His leaving even one format of the game has shocked many.
