More About Donald Tusk
(Contd. From Page 1)
A Little About Donald Tusk, the President of
the European Union
Tusk, was the Prime Minister of Polland for 7 years,
before he took office as the president of EU. He was
just a year short of completing his second term as
the PM of Poland, when he resigned to take up office
at the European Council.
Tusk has displayed immense leadership qualities,
and is highly respected. However he has a few
challenges at hand.
The first challenge being that UK plans to withdraw
from the EU, because it feels that the immigration
laws of the EU are harmful for Britain’s Economy.
The second challenge is that Europe lacks unity on
policy towards Russia, which is accused of
aggression over EU’s neighbour Ukraine.
Considering that Tusk has been democratic Poland’s
longest serving PM, he may be able to sort both
these issues out and come up with reasonable
solutions.
Burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil sends
huge amounts of polluting greenhouse gases,
including CO2, water vapour, Methane etc. into the
air. China has long relied on coal to provide
energy during its extraordinary economic growth.
The nation promised to quickly increase China’s
reliance on non-fossil fuels in energy
consumption. By 2030, Beijing aims to have 20%
of the country’s energy needs supplied by sources
that produce no emissions.
Reaching these goals will not be easy. To hit
these targets,
experts say that
both nations
must now draw
up and enforce
unprecedented
policies.
The U.S. may
have to “double
the pace of its
carbon pollution
reduction to meet the new target.” On the other
hand, China may put to use “an additional 8001,000 gigawatts” of zero-emission sources like
nuclear, wind, and solar energy by 2030. That’s
more than all the coal-fired power plants that exist
in China today.
Bhopal Gas tragedy.
The cause of the disaster is still under debate. Even after
30 years. The Indian government and local activists argue
that it is ignorance and deferred maintenance that
created a situation where the routine pipe maintenance

caused a backflow of water into a tank containing Methyl
Isocyanate, triggering the disaster. Union Carbide
Corporation (UCC) contends water entered the tank
through an act of sabotage.

CEO of UCC at the time of the disaster. In June 2010,
Under the deal, signed by the U.S. and China. USA
must cut carbon emission levels significantly by
2025. Carbon emission is the release of carbon
dioxide gas through human activity (breathing of
course cannot be stopped. lol). On the other hand,
China must start reigning in its usage of renewable
sources of energy nationwide and level off its
carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2030.
