THE YOUNG CHRONICLE
The Space Story
Rambo and Pranks have always wondered what’s
beyond the Solar system. They have heard that
there are more solar systems like
ours, revolving around their suns.
I heard that Sun is
also a star. How can
that be.
reaction generates a lot of energy in the form of
heat and light. This heat and light reaches earth
and keeps us warm.
To know more about the Sun, watch the video by Nasa, on page 5.

What is NASA?
Papa
had a tough time explaining.
Here’s what he said, ‘All the stars are as bright
as the sun, but several light years away, that is
why they appear smaller and
dimmer’.
What’s a light
year papa?
NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space
Administration. NASA is a United States government
agency that is responsible for science and technology
related to air and space. The Space Age started in 1957 with
the launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik. NASA was
created in 1958. The agency was created to oversee U.S.
space exploration and aeronautics research.
What Does NASA Do?

Papa
explained, you know that light
travels very fast, right? So light
years are the number of years it takes light to
travel from a star, to Earth.
Rambo and pranks were shocked to know that
the light they received from Stars had actually
been emitted years ago! Which is why, when
there was a delay in receiving light, it seemed
that the stars were twinkling.
Rambo then asked Papa, “so that means, the Sun
would be really close to Earth, as we get strong
Sunlight from it.” Papa then told Rambo that
the Sun was indeed much closer than the other
stars, but it was still about 15 Crore Kilometres
away from us.
How does the
Sun generate so
much light?
Well, the Sun, like all the other
stars, is a ball of gasses. The
sun fuses about 620 million metric tons of
Hydrogen each second. When we say, ‘fuses’, we
are essentially referring to the collision of two
or more Hydrogen atoms to form Helium. This

What is Beyond Our Solar System?
After understanding what NASA Does, Rambo and
Pranks our two very curious kids, were keen to know
what’s beyond the 8 planets in our Solar System. To
this mumma told them that there were many more Stars
like the Sun, which had a system of planets revolving
around them. Millions of these stars and planets made
one Galaxy. The galaxy Earth is in is called The Milky
way!
There are more galaxies that have been discovered in the universe, go
to Page 6 to know more about them. If you aren’t a subscriber yet,

I am enjoying this,
but why are we
talking about Space in
this issue?
Because preparations for
the 25th Anniversary of
the Hubble Telescope
have started, a
spacecraft landed on a
comet recently.
