YOUNG CHRONICLE November 28th , 2014 The Design of the 200-km-a-litre Vehicle The vehicle designed by the Kerala students is powered by a Honda GX35 engine and uses lightweight materials, advanced aerodynamic design and advanced tuning for extreme efficiency. The vehicle accommodates a single passenger. It has two wheels in the front and one at the back, and the steering wheel is similar to that of an auto rickshaw. The body of the vehicle is designed like a golf ball, which is highly aerodynamic, and causes very less air resistance when in motion. The vehicle weighs just around fifty kilograms! Can you beat that? Rambo is thoroughly impressed and wants to study the vehicle in person. Apart from the Team Lead, Bibin Sagaram, thee are two other students Ronith Stanly and S.Vishnu Prasad, who will be taking part in the competition in Philippines, accompanied by their teacher. The project has been completed under the guidance of two of their teachers Santhosh Kumar and Anver Sadath. Santhosh Kumar mentioned that this project was part of a study that was funded by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) under the Technology Development and Adaptation Programme. He also mentioned that the vehicle will undergo changes, as the team has time till July to complete the project," said Kumar. The vehicle has advanced safety features including a collision warning system, engine temperature monitor, and seat belt. The vehicle's chassis is made out of light-weight aluminium and the body is made out of extremely strong materials. Rambo and Pranks are huge movie buffs, but usually never understand the movies that get nominated for the Oscars. Their parents love the awards though, and insist on watching all the movies that get nominated in every category. So, needless to say, their house has been abuzz with movie discussions. The Oscars So Rambo decided to do a bit of research on the awards, and here’s what he found. This February, the 87th Academy Awards or the Oscars, will be held. The movies nominated for the ‘Best Movie Category’ are: “Birdman” – 9 “The Grand Budapest Hotel” – 9 “The Imitation Game” – 8 “Boyhood” – 6 “American Sniper” – 6 “Whiplash” – 5 “Interstellar” – 5 “Foxcatcher” – 5 We would suggest that out of these, you watch Interstellar. Don’t watch any movie without parental supervision.
