Net Neutrality
CONTEST ALERT
Here’s a debate, we will all want you to participate in. We are inviting arguments in favour and against net neutrality. Do send in your thoughts after reading this
paragraph on what Net Neutrality actually is.
There are specific apps like Skype, Whatsapp, and Facebook that ride on telecom operators like Airtel and Vodafone, which eat up into the market share of telecom
operators because people are increasingly using these free calling apps to call instead of using paid calling services, especially for international calling. In the light
of the above, the Telecom Regulatory Authority has asked the public to respond to some questions.
These set of questions have also raised questions on net neutrality, which ensured that the internet remained a level playing ground. Basis the responses, TRAI will
eventually take a call on whether India has to change its approach to Internet regulation.
While we all love the internet, the way it is, Telecom operators who have set towers enabling internet on mobile phones, feel that the calling services and social networking sites, are eating on the number of calls people originally made. But that said, the telcos do make money when internet consumption increases.
We feel that imposing such restrictions would change the internet and adversely impact companies like Flipkart, Facebook, Google and more, which depend on the
internet.
Do share your views on the same and let us know your views on whether the above internet services should be paid or not. Your articles would win you attractive
prizes, and the best opinions will be shared in our next edition.
