NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. NASA is a United States government agency that is responsible for science and technology Space exploration started inrelated to air and space. 1957 with the launch of the Russian satellite called Sputnik. NASA was created in 1958. The agency was created to oversee U.S. space exploration and research. If you look up in the sky, you sometimes see many stars. But many times, you can only see a few. That’s because when you look at stars from the Earth, you have to look through the thick, warm and slightly polluted atmosphere. Which is why Scientists have installed a telescope right What’s Beyond Our Solar System? After understanding what NASA Does, Rambo and Pranks our two very curious kids, were keen to know what’s beyond the 8 planets in our Solar System. To this mumma told them that there were many more Suns, which had a system of planets revolving around them. So there were many Solar Systems in outside the Earth’s atmosphere, which takes a picture of the universe in much greater detail. A telescope helps see things that are very very far away. What is the Hubble Space Telescope? The Hubble Space Telescope is a large telescope in space. It was launched on 24th April 1990, and will complete 25 years next year. Preparations have in fact started and a model of the telescope has been put up in New York for interested Did you know that Earth is a part of the Milky Way Galaxy people to see. The Hubble telescope takes pictures of planets, stars and galaxies. Hubble has seen the birth and death of stars. Yes, the Universe. Millions of solar systems together made galaxies, and there were millions I am enjoying this, but why are we talking about Space in this issue? stars also die (but more on that later). The Hubble has seen of galaxies that are extremely far away. The Hubble is named after an astronomer, Edwin P. Hubble. He made important discoveries in the early 1900s. He found many galaxies in the universe. To read the ‘FUN FACTS’ related to the Hubble Telescope, go to Page Because preparations for the 25th Anniversary of the Hubble Telescope have started. 6.
